Lyrics
I became good friends with my brother last summer
And I know that's not how it's supposed to go
You're supposed to be close for most of the time
But he was sort of quiet with a diet of Steely Dan
He was a Donald Fagan fan
And cinnamon toast was his cereal paradigm
And now he's off to college
With an upright standing guard
And I'll be moving out past our backyard
And now I'm fending for myself in flimsy poetry
Youth is ending, future's pending, where are we
Ooh
Well, Jaco on the radio just doesn't hit the same, you know
It's business more than art
But boiled down to a science
I studied and I moneyed and I buddied and I honeyed
I took it all apart
Dissected my defiance
And now my card won't be replaced until I'm 25
A piece of plastic proves that I'm alive
And now I'm fending for myself in flimsy poetry
Youth is ending, future's pending, where are we
Mmm mm
La da da da da da da da da da da da da
Da da da da da
Took 22 odd years or so to work out who to be
But Alex, Nick, and Jonathan were doing the same thing right in front of me
So give me some old banter I can swallow
And a movie I can follow and a fight over a chair
And a subwoofer that's dying
And we'll forget the present incessant not very pleasant looming future that's right there
You'll forgive us all for trying
Cause now there's no one who can tell me what my options are
The way they've always done so well so far
And now I'm fending for myself in flimsy poetry
Youth is ending, future's pending, where are we
