Lyrics
Oh, Sparks
The frolic, the flare
But never beware
Tis but a skirmish, they say, with such splash
And drift, and whisking of wave
The light-speckled droplets as jolted water
Tossed nearly into a daze, a craze
And before glowing eyes, at once alighted
At once rent asunder
Though scared and scarred
Still sacred and ever so acutely alive
At once bittersweet and flecking
Into a curious and far-off reflection
A half-light so aware
So forgetful and worn
And twisted and crying out
And aching and screaming
And scratching and wriggling
And squeezing and wincing
And heaving and shifting and spinning
And turning and turning and turning
And then coasting along still, just soaring out
And floating on and loving more and more and more
Past that and dreaming none too quietly
And feeling this piercing light shine forth
Even fiercer and fiercer still
Beyond any and all of that
But beginning to shred at those seams all the same
So just holding out for the other side
So mightily, so magnificently
So bravely, so brashly
So daringly, so exhaustedly
At once so bright indeed
But to where then does it scurry forever
And ever and evermore beyond that was the pact
Then one fateful day
Too late and shall not be undone
A wish
Left with its dream
Its vision
And its mirage
Its sounding sent through
Of a daisy and her dragon
A destiny and its dance
Yet this one memory remains
Of rain, of earth, of sky
Of salt, of a dazzling pattern
And a unification therein
A sight to behold
At once lost completely
At once persevered through and through
And then all at once
This aged and bygone auteur
Discovers that the frostbitten brain
Is suddenly momentarily able to recall
What it felt like way down deep in the bone
To truly arrive at a sensation
Its purpose
Its energy
Its warmth
And the whole overall human experience
In that they imagined
The thing would always just be so
Organically and bracingly enmeshed
Within that one trademark
That acutely simple
Idea itself
So thank you
Oh sparks
