Friends since kindergarten

Now acquaintances at best

Pretending they were roller coasters

Seeing who'd swing higher

Competition was their thing

They couldn't help but race each other

Through the years, like brothers

But every once in a while, people start to drift

And they went their separate ways

Tate crashed his car in high school

The rest of junior year in a cast

He still misses his brother

Went overseas and never came back

Promised his brother he'd go pro

But then he lost the drive

He only hopes one day

That he might bring his memory pride

Lambert went into STEM

His parents made it feel like an obligation

He needed their validation

Though he much preferred to do something else

He couldn't deny his skills

They'd definitely pay the bills

But now he's left feeling distant from the things

That made his life worthwhile

Reynolds dropped out senior year

Had to work double jobs

Just to care for his mom

But it seems her meds don't help that much

Her condition's turned adverse

And she's only getting worse

But she doesn't fear the end, 'cause she's loved the life she's lived

And in time, she'll tell him she wants to pass on

All she asks is that he, too, lives a life he can love

And to take care of her daisies when she's gone
