Lyrics
Luther Kinnaird was runnin from the law
he killed a man somewhere in Arkansas
He rode into Alabama in 1852 armed with his shooter and bloodstains on his shoes
In 1861 the civil war began
Luther would die before he'd let a yankee take his land
He was waiting down by the River side
When he saw their torches he had fire in his eyes
He said
They got a fight comin, they got a fight comin tonight
They got a fight comin, they got a fight comin tonight
And I might die by this riverside but they got a fight comin, they got a fight comin tonight.
Then in the spring of 1863 Luther rode to Vicksburg to fight for the Mississippi
He lost his leg fightin to hold that line
But above the gunfire he screamed into the night
They got a fight comin, they got a fight comin tonight
They got a fight comin, they got a fight comin tonight
And I might die by this riverside but they got a fight comin, they got a fight comin tonight.
Luther died on his farm in 1889 with his beloved Agnes sittin at his bedside
And down in the bottoms when the wind is right still today you can hear his angry cry
They got a fight comin, they got a fight comin tonight
They got a fight comin, they got a fight comin tonight
And I might die by this riverside but they got a fight comin, they got a fight comin tonight.
