Lyrics
I never had a brother
But I always wondered what having one was like
Someone whom I could bother
To use his plate and ride his bike
I wondered what walking to school with him would be like
Walking the walk and talking the talk
He'd be so cool; I'd call him Bra Mike
He'd be the Jordan and I wouldn't need a Nike
All I'd ever have to do is see what he does
Make his whole experience my extra class
Use his previous books to help me pass
Copy his assignments; that would make me boss
When bullies came knocking at my door
And strong guys hold me to the floor
He would find out and beat them so sore
He would make sure I'm bothered no more
In our private time he'd teach me how to fight
He would teach me to stand for what's right
He would show me shortcuts to escape
For the days when he's out of shape
But then I started looking…
And didn't like the truth I found
Some of my friends had brothers
They often complained and didn't want their brothers around
They said their bedrooms produce the loudest sound
They get bullied when their parents aren't around
But it gets worse
Some brothers don't fight for their brothers
They just tease them for being weak around others
They get the toys first and pass them to their younger
They set standards that younger brothers must keep
And when it's time to help with homework…
They laugh and say 'It's not that deep'
Maybe not having a brother was not so bad after all
Having seen what I saw
I realised there is no flaw between the haves and the have-nots
I'd be my own brother; I'd make my own laws
Learn how to fight ride my bike and bite
I'd do my own assignments
And whether I pass or fail
Life would just be right…with or without
