He bore the mark of hunger

Curled mangling pain

His iris was dilated

On the eye that remained

Deprived of Respite

His face a work of scars

He stood upon the serpent stone

And held a moments time

Then took the step that had him brought

Before the basalt shrine

He crossed his feet together

And took a pilgrims stance

His mangled fingers forming seals

That set his mind in trance

He reached inside his shriveled throat

And tore his blackened tongue

And chanted gargling blasphemies

Towards the world of man

The offering accepted but barely satisfied

The dweller of the shrine would have his one remaining eye

The eremite extruded a crude and broken blade

And with it took his one last eye and proved the name Unmade

Prepared for the occasion he cast a spell of sight

And finally bore witness to the Madness of the Shrine
