Psalm Fifty-Five

For the director of music (yeah, yeah, ok, come on)

With stringed instruments

A maskil of David (check, yo)

Listen to my prayer, O God

It's all I ask

Don't ignore my plea

Hear me and call me back

My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught

Because of what the enemy is saying

I'm caught

Because of the threats of the wicked

I'm not feeling good

My bones actually rot

They're bringing suffering down on me

And my heart is in anguish

It pounds to the beat

Off and on beat

Weak and scrawny

The terrors of death have fallen on me

Fear and trembling have beset me

Horror overwhelms me

Don't forget me

If I only had the wings of a dove

I would fly away and be at rest above

I would have a restart and flee far to desert plains

And to my shelter

Far from hurricanes

And they be saying, "you're insane" and different slurs

Lord, confuse the wicked and mix their words

I see violence, the city is perturbed

Lives destroyed, every hope is deferred

Get treated like a piece of meat

Because these threats and lies never leave its streets (yo)

But there's another pain filling up the brain

Not the enemy, no that I could maintain

But it's somebody else who insults me

It's you, an old friend I knew, who faults me

A man like myself

My companion, my close friend

We went deep like a canyon or ocean

Enjoyed sweet fellowship

And rejoiced in the knowledge of God

Until your explosion (dang)

And you used to be honest

I feel hurt, but nothing close to what God does

This world is a deadly demise

I pray death takes my enemies by surprise

Let them go alive down to the tomb prison

And evil can share the bunk and room with them

As for me, I call to God

And the Lord saves me

No it ain't really all that odd

Evening, morning, noon, make the choice

To call out my tune and He hears my voice (yeah)

And I'm untouched when God rescues me

From the battle

Outnumbered by enemies

You see, the One is Who is enthroned from ancient

The One Who alone is never changing

He drops the proud to the pavement

Because they don't believe that He can annihilate them

Right - my companion attacks his friends

He violates his covenant

His talk is smooth as butter

Yet war is in his heart

His words are more soothing than oil

Yet they are swords to destroy you (uh)

So, what is a man to do (what)

Go to the only One Who is true (go to Him)

Cast your cares on the Lord, the pain too (cast it)

And you'll see that He will sustain you (for real)

He will never let the righteous be shaken (come on)

Nothing will trip Him or get in His way (go)

But You, God will bring down the wicked

Right into the pit of decay (You will)

The bloodthirsty and deceitful who laughed in His face

Will not live out half of their days (no)

But as for me, what it's coming to
