Yesterday

A girl posted on her blog

That she would never ever date or be with

Any person who already has children

Immediately I felt compelled to write to her

So I did

I wrote

You are definitely not the only one

Who feels that way

There are many others

Who would say the same for themselves too

But as time passes

And with age

And with more relationship and life experience

Our feelings about how important that is

More often than not

Change

Those same little children

Will have all grown up

Become independent

And will have left home

And had kids of their own

Those people who felt that way

If they're still single

Which very often they remain

Depending on how strongly they feel this way

And for how long

Tend to change their perspective

The older people get

It becomes more and more likely

That any prospective partners they meet

Will have already had children

Unless he or she

Chooses to seek

Outside the school gates

A much younger partner than themselves

They will otherwise

Have matured

Into just wanting simply to find someone

Who loves and cares about them

Whom they can be happy with

And with whom they can spend and enjoy

What is left of their life

The fact that someone already has children

Becomes somewhat expected

And far less of an issue by such time

Some realise and grow into this truth earlier

Some later

Again, this is dependant

On how passionate they are

About not wanting to be with someone

Who already has kids

Every time you shoot down a person

Just because they have children

You're possibly shooting down

What could potentially be the love of your life

And after pulling the trigger

You'd never know

It is sad to realise all of this too late

When we've become less attractive

Less youthful

And much older

And eventually dependant

Like those same children ourselves

And end up just living and dying

Without anyone

All alone

With nothing but sorrow

And the cold company of our own painful regrets

I thought very much like her when I was younger

But just like any of my friends

I no longer feel that way today

Time teaches us all in hindsight

I felt moved to just offer her some food for thought

And a different perspective to consider

Something I wish I'd been offered myself

Much earlier in life
