I look back at 2020 and realise

I'm not the same person post pandemic

I grew like a mother about to give birth

Labour pains

Deep breaths

I swallow and it hurts

But then something happened

With one sharp contraction

I started to bury all the distractions

A blink of an eye

I became a butterfly

I left my problems at the seashore

I dipped my feet in the water

It was so pure

And I looked out at God's creation

With a gulp in my throat

In awe of everything I thought

I knew before

But with new discernment

With new wisdom

Looking through a new prism

I was made new

I outgrew you

I outgrew the little me,

I left her in 2020

But she visits me from time to time

Like a nursery rhyme I used to sing

My lips know the song

I sing along but hum through the parts

That caused me pain

Or the ones I miss

Life's moving fast, it's scary

I wanna hold onto this tightrope

But my water broke

And it's time to birth something new again.

Something I gotta trust I'm ready for

What if I fall?

What if I fly?

Expectation, elevation, emancipation

I'm anchored, for your glory
