It's so easy to get caught up on what's negative in life

Something that hurt us in the past or something we're struggling with currently

Or even to look into the future with worry

But that gets us nowhere

If we continue to dwell in that place of resentment or fear

Anger or abject sadness forever

We miss out on the good that comes after

It's a lot like a storm

During the storm it seems like nothing is at peace

Everything that once seemed impossible to move or be shifted is displaced

And even when you are inside

In that pocket of warmth and comfort

You can still hear the echoes of those winds and rain

The rumble of thunder and the sounds of the tree branches whipping in the never ending breeze

Like a thousand lashes trying to reach you

You feel like you can't escape and it's terrifying

But when that storm ends and the suffering is over

The earth rejoices

The grass is lush and the ponds and brooks are full

The air smells of freshly fallen rain and the sky is once again clear

Things are different than before sure

Fallen trees and broken fences

But even with those blemishes there is an overarching sense of rebirth and hope

If we stay inside

In our place of refuge from our pain

Sure we don't have to actively deal with the bad that came from our storms

But we also can never see the great new life that lies in wait

It's only by stepping out of our own shells and taking that risk

That we can find happiness in the face of recent sorrow
