Lyrics
I woke one night to feel like my head had been compressed
I went to find a doctor and you never would have guessed
I met one like a feline and he sure looked impressed
By a sabre-toothed brunet in a Mondrian print dress
The troubadour was having trouble creaking down to kneel
Crawling out so slowly with both hands upon the wheel
The pompadour was twinging as he tried to find a feel
Tasking me and asking me is this all really real
She moves with the certainty of other times and places
Her thoughts are always clear to read on each side of her faces
She asked a porter with a wink to carry up her cases
He ran for miles and vanished without leaving any traces
She was flicking through the candidates listed in the book
Goes rowing on weekends and sleeps suspended on a hook
She watches all the boats with a cross-eyed morbid look
And clings onto her moorings which are bound to come unstuck
She was speaking to detectives and feeling pretty shook
Someone had driven off with all her jewels in a truck
She was making up a list of everything they took
They followed leads for centuries but never caught the crook
Next in came the sphinx who took it all in at a glance
Stood above the mantel in a sculptor-artist stance
The juggler and the hypnotist got caught up in a trance
They walk a hundred miles, ah they never stood a chance
King Midas smashed a window as in traipsed a group singers
You could tell it from his glasses and the ink-stains on his fingers
A romantic figure shouted to a crowed of bad-news bringers
Long after you leave here your emptiness still lingers
Some days I watch the sunrise over cemetery hill
It gets me so distracted that I always over-spill
The acrobat across the street is sitting very still
I've never spoken to him and I guess I never will
It seems that all the cruellest words are only spoke jest
By unsuspecting neophytes staring to the west
They asked me to explain, I put my mind to the test
I recited for an hour, well I forget the rest
