The light flickered as I passed it

Another shadow cast so quick

Pointing north as the sun at noon

But gone just fast as leaving only night

Even knowing it wasn't the sun

I look up to a sky so bright

Expecting stars but not a single one

But the lamp post's flair in the night

After escaping to the sanctuary of trees

A sprinklers start gives me a fright

But I'm calmed by the chill of a breeze

For the only time the weather's fine's the dead of the night

And a bridge now looms overhead

As ducks quack as if there's a fight

Perhaps a squabble erupted over some bread?

Or simply I wish for the calmest of nights

Several have come for this quietest place

Yet upon the peace, people remain a blight

As they walk words tumble from their face

But why else'd they come but for a nice serene night?

I understand now it's not quite what I thought

I'd hoped for a realm of nature's delight

And finally I've found a secluded spot

At least it's quieter than the streets so I can better enjoy the night

And the lights fade as midnight approaches

And I'm satisfied now, enough to head home
