Lyrics
(Got too many words...)
The year was two thousand twenty
With so much that wasn't guaranteed
I just thought I'd give you a ring
To see how you were doing
I just moved back to Austin, Texas
Wanted to get away from everything
Spent the last seven months or so out in Tennessee
Things were going good, I was doing my best
Transferring jobs wound up being a whole huge mess
My boss and I never saw eye-to-eye
I was always stressed
So I quit that job and started selling phones
And in my off time, I was kicking stones
Roaming around in the great unknown
Of the Smoky Mountains.
But there was something that kept pulling me away
Kept telling me that I could not stay
Tears were shed and soon after I fled
Back to the lone star state
Feels like I'm back to square one
Got me a dog and boy did we have some fun
But after realizing I couldn't pay the rent
I took him back to where he came
I'm just trying to make my way up
Just trying to get myself out of this rut
I've got me an apartment down south
I guess that's pretty cool...
My neighbor below me, she seems pretty sweet,
We've gone on a few walks these past few weeks.
But I don't think there is any chemistry
So I think I'll just let it be.
Seeing all of my old friends has been fun
My dad even showed off his brand new gun
I would love to go out to the range one day
But he just works too much
Now I've been stuck inside for about two months
After the world shut down and the covid struck
I'm starting to go stir crazy, but then again maybe
This is just all right
I'm keeping busy writing songs all alone
Going running, and I don't drink no more
This laundry pile just keeps staring me down
Like I'm forgetting somethin'
Well I think that just about sums it all up
I'm just trying my best to be like those grownups
Anyways, I think my time is just about up
So I'm gonna go.
Now I know this idea might not have been so great
I was hoping I might catch you on your work break
I don't expect a call I just thought I'd see how you were doing
So I'm gonna go now and let it be
You sound good by the tone of your answering machine
You take care now and if you wanna chat, just give me a ring
