Its the flicker of the television

Its the darkness in the hall

Its the bottles on the floor smashed and broken

Its the twenty missed phone calls

Its the letter she’d just written

Its the bullet in the gun

Its the will to live no longer in her

Its the end of whats to come

They got the call on Tuesday

Said there’s been a body found

And like the ending of a screenplay

In a dark room in her wedding gown

Weren’t many at the service

Just the families of the two

Dressed in black and veiled faces

They looked on as loved ones do

And down she goes

He found the written letter

Said she couldn't live no more

Without her friend, lover her soldier

Who died a hero in the war

Well there’d been a misunderstanding

And he’d just made his way back home

He wanted to surprise her with some roses

But now like him they wilt alone

They got the call on Monday

Said there’s been a body found

And like the ending of a screenplay

Another soldier heaven bound

Found grasping a wrinkled paper

Said he’d fallen in the war

They found him lying on the same couch

They found his lover the week before

And down he goes

Its the flicker of the television

Its the darkness in the room

Its the dead and wilted flowers in an empty vase
