Is This What You Really Want is our first release since our debut LP, How To Live With You came out in 2018. During this time, we have been raising a child. We hope you’ll forgive our absence.
At this moment, we will have been a band for over 7 years, and written and released a total of 20 songs. While this may suggest a sluggish work ethic, we believe it is testament to our love of pop music, and how to create it. To pour yourself into it and only ever let the best of yourself be unleashed on the world. This applies to all things but especially to artists in this time in history.
This work ethic is reflected in Is This What You Really Want. Layers of snarling, pissed off guitars serve as a foundation for cathartic vocal arrangement. Buried inside the siren like quality is a message of regret, despair and disbelief.
As we write this, our country is burning. It is (to put it bluntly) a rather hellish environment to raise a child and make music in. As this song was mixed and mastered in our studio in regional South Australia, the room was full of the smell of bushfire smoke. Kangaroo Island was, and still remains, consumed by wildfires. It was ultimately sobering, and served as a reminder as to what really matters, and what’s really important.
It makes us angry. It makes us terribly sad. It keeps you up at night with anxiety. Somehow, all these sentiments are wrapped up in this song. It’s loud, downtempo, distorted and weird.
It’s what 2020 sounds like to us....more
