Reuben Kigame

Reuben Kigame is a singer, writer, producer, radio presenter, and widely read on christian apologetics. Born in Kenya in early 60s to be presise 1967, Reuben is blind yet did not allow this challenge to hinder his desire for learning and pursuing music. Many of Reuben's Songs became very popular and trendy on social media in line with a great number of streaming and downloads on Boomplay.

Career
Reuben’s passion for music started at a tender age of seven years. He mostly sings in Kiswahili but has also has some country songs. His music is a hit in Kenya and beyond. Enda nasi (go with us) is one of his Kiswahili greatest hits. The song has been played in national events by various bands. In country music, sweet bunyore is a hit. Kigame recorded his first album, What a Mighty God We Have in 1987.

Together with his team, the sifa voices, Kigame has recorded 29 albums. Reuben worked through the difficulties of life in rural Kenya to graduate with an honours degree in Education from Kenyatta university.

The ‘Huniachi’ hitmaker attended Thika high school for the blind and pursued an undergraduate degree in education. He taught history and religion for a short duration before earning a masters degree in journalism and media studies. His talent and speaking eloquence earned him invitations to Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) in regard to religious matters.

In 2001, he briefly worked as a journalist for Radio Citizen and Hope FM. His media passion prompted him to launch his own radio station in Eldoret but closed it down citing frustration from media stakeholders who denied him a nationwide frequency. He lost his companion of many years, Mary, with whom they were in university together and later married, through a fatal road accident in 2006.

Kigame first stamped into the murky waters of politics in 2013 when he attempted to be the first governor of Vihiga county. He however lost and emerged 4th out of 6 contenders. Currently the musician is eyeing the 2022 presidential seat and got a big boost when the Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) picked him to be the party’s presidential flagbearer.

In July 7th 2021, his planned launch for the presidential bid was disrupted by the police who claimed the meeting flouted COVID-19 containment restrictions.

Achievements
Revered man of the cloth and gospel musician Reuben Kigame is a charming man adored as an icon who has weathered the biggest of life storms to be at the place he is today. Despite being blind, his life could be likened to a man who saw a world in a grain of sand and faced the world armed with hope that he was a conqueror.

Being a renowned artist, the head of state awarded him a Head of State award, the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) in recognition of his contribution to Kenya’s media and music on the 2010’s Mashujaa Day.

He has also ventured into various businesses such as farming, running a hotel and media house. He founded Fish Media and the Word of Truth Ministries. He has good standing in consultancy and Research Support in Broadcasting, Music Production, Christian Apologetics and Theology.
