Just a unicorn from the South Bronx ?
I'm a community health worker and direct support professional for children with disabilities. I got my BA in anthropology from Hunter College and I'm currently working towards my Master's in Public Health. I was inspired by the adversities I faced as a first generation Afro-Latina. The challenges faced as a low-income Puerto Rican and Dominican Taino descendent with Black, Italian, and Spaniard roots in the South Bronx was very challenging along with the influx of diversity amongst The Bronx with new emerging cultures like Hip Hop, Rap, Reggaeton, Salsa, Bachata, Reggae and etc coming into play, the fusion of the mixing of culture, becoming one despite differences and being able to voice change through music motivated me to use my medical background and educational studies to empower the people.
My music and visuals are a living document. It reflects off the social determinants that occur in what we consider "the ghetto". It's mission is to provide awareness and advocacy to promote change. It also allows to start discussions to create valuable insight through reflective conversations. The goal is to lower inhibitions and breed confidence through a matter of recollection of time and space. It offers a creative choice of embracing culture and promoting social justice while executing a mentality and lifestyle.
