Poptain Yardbwoy (real name Ameen Jaleel Matanaga) is a Zimdancehall artist, artist based in Harare, Zimbabwe. Many Poptain songs become very popular and trendy online with a great number of streaming and downloads on Boomplay. He is one of the pioneer artists taking Zimbabwean music to the world, his fresh and melodic sounds are bringing something new to the Zimbabwean scene with a goal of making an impact in Africa and the world.
He is most known for his 2020 song Fadza Mutengi as well as other collaboration songs with artists such as Uncle Epatan, Nutty O. Poptain was born on 22 May 1994. Potain was partly raised in Gweru and later moved to Harare in 2004. He completed his high school education in Harare at Majlisul Ulama Zimbabwe (Independent College Zimbabwe). He started doing music sessions at school and the encouragement he got from friends and admirers inspired him to pursue it as a career.
Music Career
After completing his high school education, Poptain went into the studio in 2011. Initially, his stage name was Mad Arzlaan but he later changed to Poptain on the advice of a friend in the industry, Nuddy Nice
Poptain has said his role model is Mavado, the Jamaican musician. "His style is something else", he said in an interview.
Although starting his career as a Zimdancehall artist his new music explores other genres- making him more of an all-rounded artist. His humble nature, likable personality, and musical genius have proven to be the combination that sets him apart. With recent hits like Pfau Pfau, Munhu We Nyama, and Fadza Mutengi- he has proved to have music that tops the charts and put his name amongst the stars.
