Hailing from South Holland, IL, rapper Kembe X represents the kids who are proud to be themselves, even if that means not fitting in.
First breaking onto the scene in 2011 with his first mixtape Self Rule, which featured Alex Wiley and Chance The Rapper, Kembe showed a lot of promise on the mic with a combination of social observations, introspective thought and witty humor.
In late 2013, after releasing his second ever project “Soundtrack II Armageddon” which featured Isaiah Rashad, Kembe X was called to Carson, CA by Moosa Tiffith of TDE. A trip that was supposed to last 3 weeks turned into years of work between Kembe and Moosa including; an EP with Scion and touring with Ab-Soul in 2014, songs with the likes of Danny Brown and Hippie Sabotage in 2015, touring with Hippie Sabotage before releasing his 1st album “Talk Back” in 2016, and 4 appearances at Rolling Loud from 2015-2017.
After a brief hiatus, Kembe returned on October 25th, 2019 with his critically acclaimed 2nd album “I Was Depressed Until I Made This” where he explored themes of mental illness, addiction and how some of our habits can stem from childhood traumas. With songs ranging from melodic contemplations like “Voices”, intoxicating, repetitive joyrides like “Roblox”, motivational, self aware bangers like 8:59 and Limb, to story telling blap records like “Raised A Fool” which features TDE’s Jay Rock , Ab-Soul and Zacari, there is no limit to Kembe’s diversity....more
