The first petals of Camellia emerged after a momentous experience with Ayahuasca which singer/songwriter Andrea Diaz braved in the hopes of restoring a sense of autonomy to herself after struggling with depression and trauma. Produced and engineered by her cousin, Tomas Deltoro-Diaz, Camellia is a coming of age story told with haunting vocals, analogue synths, and electronic production. Over several years and between coasts, the record chronicled her sweeping search for identity and freedom among stories of ancestral lineage, American mythologies, and personal transformations.
Once a shy teenage girl from Sacramento, she spent years in New York in fruitful collaboration with distinguished musicians like Joe McGinty (Psychedelic Furs, Nada Surf, The Duchess and the Fox) and Stuart Bogie (Superhuman Happiness, Antibalas, Arcade Fire) where she acted as a co-writer and frontperson.
After the release of Camellia, Andrea began going by Dia Luna, ( Day Moon in Spanish ) to celebrate her rebirth into a creative entity of her own making--full of polarity and beauty, and with the purpose of bringing to light what usually remains in the dark....more
