It has been over 6 years since Northern Irish singer-songwriter Daniel James has released any music. Previously with Universal and BMG, he supported the likes of Hozier on his European tour. Daniel was then set to support Sam Smith on his much-awaited ‘In the Lonely Hour’ tour. It was a shock when he had to swap The Hammersmith Apollo for Belfast City Hospital.
With his musical journey on pause to complete a course of chemotherapy after discovering he had testicular cancer, Daniel is now over 5 years into remission and ready to press play.
His first track, ‘Pixels’, which comes out April 9th was co-written and produced by multi-instrumentalist songwriter and producer Dan McDougall (Bruno Major, Gracey). McDougall is currently the live drummer for Liam Gallagher. The track was also mixed by Jules Gulon and mastered by Kevin Duffy (Air Studios).
The upcoming release is the first in what will be a carefully curated series of tracks, handpicked from many years of co-writing with some of the UK’s most notable songwriters.
“This is for the joy of collaboration and to fill the void of sharing art once again: something I have been missing so much. During the lockdown period I have had time to reflect and plan. I felt it would be such a waste to not give these songs the light of day”.
He describes ‘Pixels’ as a song that celebrates the unique power of each human connection, and the complexity of memory.
