He was a sinner - he was a saint

He was an open contradiction with so much he had to say

He was poignant - but he was real

And his words they made you wonder 'bout the way that they made you feel

He was a troubadour in disguise

And someone who might take you by surprise

And if you had a little time - to keep an open mind

There was always more to read between the lines

He was a poet - he was a clown

He'd bring you up when he wanted to and then he'd take you right back down
