Backseat

In daylight, in sunsets, in cups of coffee

I thought I'd have more time

So sick of phone calls

When she asked me, "Are you sitting down?"

Or when you called to tell me that the doctor said six

I count my time in driving home

Streetlights flood in like a metronome

I read in the backseat while you ask me about my day

Or in the aisles of a grocery store

Point up and grin, "Do you know who this is playing overhead?"
