We Learn

My child said to me, "What am I gonna be when I get older?"

And then suddenly two little men appeared upon my shoulders

And a wave of sadness blanketed my body

Like transparent wings of angels

Though some dreams are out of reach

Even while we teach, we learn

If you stare too long at closed doors

You'll surely miss the portals that are open

'Cause the pain comes not in what you are

But rather in the things you shy away from

You can't take back the things you haven't done
