The Flower Man

In Oklahoma it's against the law to watch two chickens fight

You can be punished with ten years in prison and a ten thousand dollar fine

And there are people who devote their lives to rooting out illegal rooster fights

But nobody seemed to pay any mind when they were shooting down the Flower Man

In Oklahoma the statute values the life of a gaming fowl

You make birds battle and they will prosecute to the extent that the law allows

But if you're homeless, old and Black you can be shot three times in the back

And nobody is gonna lose their badge for shooting down the Flower Man

His name was Bennie Edwards

He sold flowers on the street
