Forty Years

When I was young, I swore there's a monster living underneath my bed

And as it turned out, that monster had moved on up to live inside my head

He wrestled with me, told me I's no good, no one would ever love me

And he told me this for well over forty years

I never thought I'd see him die, so long, so well, so hard I tried

As time went on, it made me cry, so close to the other side

I see the lights, they're headed for me, am I the one I wanted to be

I didn't think that I'd ever be free, to be the one I was supposed to be

Oh, I feel free, is it me, am I understanding now

Two for me, can it be, am I past the madness
