Purple Dress

She began her life as any other child

Without a care and unaware of the wicked world

Mommy tried her best to keep her and her brother safe and warm

Daddy got a second job and wore it like a crown of thorns

When she turned six her mommy bought a purple dress

She took her to the mall and had her picture taken smiling

Back at home daddy turned he knocked the bottles from the table

Mommy took the kids upstairs but couldn't keep herself from crying

Then daddy came in with the night

He drew the sheets he dimmed the lights
