Cigarette

Whenever I picture myself, I see a cigarette dangling from my mouth

I don't even smoke cigarettes, but I like the smell of them

I like when old men smoke on the subway and the women yell at them

I like that

I'm reminded of my grizzled grandfather, who would smoke and drink and beat my poor young dad

Until he found God and dropped the bottle, but he couldn't drop his anger

And he couldn't drop his cigarette, 'til he was 'bout to die
