Ebb and Flow

I sit here gazing at the stars against an endless canvas of black

And though this message is for no one, I wish that something would answer back

'Cause it's a lonely realization that there's nothing more than this

No fiery pits of hell, and I'll be damned if there's eternal bliss

I wake up every morning, go to work and I get paid

But I'm losing my belief in the routine day-to-day

Trade away the best years that I have upon this earth

And when my time is up, what will it all have been worth?

Well I've never been a man of faith, but I'm trying to pray

To anyone who'll listen, the gods of love, or hope, or fame

Amidst the darkness of this world, I am trying to find the light
