Amongst the Trees

I remember the fog, a shimmering nebula slowly washed in on the breeze

At the center of town, she took her form and sweetly announced our convictions

A disarming voice, lullaby sweet arose as if sung by the trees

"Bountiful hunts, protection from danger I've given you for generations"

Campfires sputtered and torches burnt out

Tools now rusted were falling apart

Buildings did groan as wood rotted away

Some nights in my dreams I can still hear her say

"I have watched and protected you night after night

Staved off your hunger from famine and blight
