You were older than me in the fourth grade

I hung onto every word that you sang

Like tomorrow it'd all start to fade

You had eyes brown like chocolate diamonds

But your smile was empty like a distant island

Gaze stretched out towards the horizon

Catching fireflies in my backyard

Knees are beat up, broken, scarred

From falling but it's not that hard

To forget the pain, it's temporary
