The First Time

The first time I saw Jesus I was shaken to the core

I'd taken what I needed, and I'd taken plenty more

Don't know what I was expecting, but it sure was a surprise

When suddenly the man himself was there before my eyes

The first time I saw Jesus I knew not what I should say

But given my condition I couldn't talk much anyway

Of course that didn't matter, 'cause of course he understood

And everything was everything and everything was good

The first time I saw Jesus I was standing in the rain

The cop who came to check me thought I might be insane
