Lyrics
Another day dawning, a wild Wednesday morning
A 40 knot northerly, a hot summer's day
When Kevin and Mary came back from the dairy
They both saw the trouble that was coming their way
A neighbour rang fearing the bushfire was nearing
"The roads and the river will protect us" they said
But the fire balls flew higher the river caught fire
The house started burning so they ran for the shed
They'd just crossed the road as the haystack exploded
Climbed in a milk vat and started to pray
Hands are shaking, hearts are breaking
Bushfire's taking it all the way
The teacher was frightened, the fires net had tightened
A one classroom primary school with nowhere to hide
She locked up the latches and fastened at the catches
And sung with the children as they huddled inside
Under their cover they clung to each other
She wept when she saw that the kids were okay
Hands are shaking, hearts are breaking
Bushfire's taking it all the way
A volunteer fighter arrived at the shelter
For seven long hours he'd been out in the fray
He washed in the corner and cold soapy water
Some fruit juice and sandwiches then was back on his way
Bloodshot and weary his eyes told a story
But no time to ask him and no time to say
Hands are shaking, hearts are breaking
Bushfire's taking it all
Hands are shaking, hearts are breaking
Bushfire's taking it all away
