Lyrics
Oh mortal man woe is to thee
For existence is a misery
Always thirsting to achieve
But no success will grant reprieve
No amount of wealth can slake
That ravens tap that steady ache
Fill the hole empty eternal
Through love romantic or fraternal
Perhaps some power would yet it plug
Or maybe fame will hold the warmest hug
Nay Exploring of the unseen
But then what can all of this data mean
So open your heart to altruistic good
And begin to play the Robin Hood
Alas to help them all one cannot manage
Or fend off those who would take advantage
So next one succumbed to cynicism
And sees the world through murky prism
Which leads to a much deserved respite
Where one can hide from prying light
So down the rabbit hole like Alice
I am dragged beneath the depths of Fermed Chalice
And on these murky depths I then sail
Where hedonistic ego doth yet prevail
So I float on up the Pharaohs Nile
And soak up some narcissistic style
And out of isolation remerge
Surfing on the confidence surge
To take the world by force
For maybe Power will quell that voice
The one that cries out late at night
That keeps you up and from respite
But then amass the mobs shaky favor
And then perpetually live in unsteady waiver
Then forced to use not only love but fear
Keep your allies close but your enemies more near
You then realize the restriction of this yoke
And start to feel the steady choke
Playing pandering slave to the mass
To climb the ladder of social class
Is yet not able to silence the scream
The unceasing question asking what does it mean
Retreat from this self internment
Off to find enlightenment as a hermit
There in Solace I will find
The secret of my existence Mine
Months and years yet do pass by
Not once did your navel escape watchful eye
No stone unturned or dilemma un-wrestled
Yet strangely absent of an answers nestle
Yet sands have passed and wisdom gained
And aging nostalgia bares its pain
For at the feet of Father Time
Is where lays the richest epiphany mine
And the lessons that He has to impart
Strike deep in cut into the heart
That solitude and ivory towers
Aesthetic pleasure and political power
None above can yet fill the pit
Just dig one deeper into it
That no amount of wealth and fame
Can renounce the clutches of death's claim
And with this newfound light to see
One is faced with naught but history
To mourn the loss of loved ones past
Whose spurn'ed love thou hast outcast
In search of some more lofty seat
You cast out your birthright for bite to eat
The lonely embrace of aged regret
Like vinegar for ones lips to wet
And as you slip into healths decline
Your face illuminated by the exit sign
One cannot but hope for some small rope
With which to climb from deaths cruel joke
But only a shroud's warmth to cover thee
And so ends the man and misery
