It was November

We had received reports of women and children missing in a swamp just to the south of the city

The families were hysterical

Giving us statements about fires deep in the woods

Inhuman chanting

Shadowy figures and drums

The godforsaken drums that the locals said were driving them insane

The inspector took twenty of us to investigate

We arrived at the edge of the swamp at sunset

The sun seemed to die as it was swallowed by the black broken fingers of skeletal trees

We walked for hours in darkness following an extremely nervous guide who I suspect was not there of his own free will

The air was thick and oppressive

Nightmarish sounds could be heard in the distance

And then chanting

A single word repeating

Ia Ia

We followed the voices to a large clearing and hid ourselves behind the tall grasses and watched the strange otherworldly ritual

The participants were covered in blood and danced around a stone idol that resembled some type of tentacle faced dragon

I could feel my brain screaming in my skull when I looked at it

Two of our men fainted and one ran screaming into the night

Though the cultists were not alerted as the droning music drowned out his screams

It was as if we were watching the servants of hell

As they praised and worshiped their unknown and blasphemous god
