They say you are what you were taught when you were younger

Well I was younger yesterday, and last week, and so on and so forth

I was taught to always keep God first & foremost even if it felt like he forgot about me

I was taught to never complain because there are those that have it worse than I

I was taught to never have my hand out & to shield my face when I cry

I was taught that my words are more powerful than I could ever surmise

And that the sun rises and shines its face on those who look ahead

I can't look back nor turn my head

Never bring baggage to the bagless, is what I was taught

I'm starting to wonder if those lessons were all for naught

What I was taught was an awful lot
