So, here’s what I say:

The way we live

It doesn’t work

There’s a disconnection

With the world around us

And we tell ourselves

That we understand

But we’ve built a system

It’s egotistical

Prejudiced

Exploitatory

Intrinsically corrupt

Unequal

Highly toxic

All in all

It doesn’t work

And now it’s crumbling everywhere

But they don’t want to believe it

They’re kept inside their boxes

Whilst the tyrants do their worst

But they don’t have another gameplan

They’re just doing what they know

And there are monumental changes on the way

That they don’t like

So, I say:

What about some other ways

Of organising humankind?

Maybe we could all explore

Some possibilities, ideas and options

That have been suggested

By a lot of different folk

From a lot of different places

Now, we’re not expecting a

Consensus of opinion

But what these theories have in common

Is a freshness of approach

A willingness to start anew

To rock the boat

To shake it up

There’s a wealth of good ideas

If we could only entertain them

Step off of the treadmill and you

Open up a whole new world

Where anything is possible

The future could be so exciting

If we’d just release our minds

And realise our potential

In this providential world

Non-aggression principle

Trust in humanity

Commoning, grass roots

Cooperative, collectivist

Open source

Participatory community

We want the right to live with dignity

I’m talkin’ about all generations

Loosen control

Alternative energy

Free energy for all

Localism, pluralism, anarchism

Circular economy - with doughnuts

Right relationship

Permaculture

Ubuntu

So, now I say:

Why persist with this broken system

Give the other ways a chance

And see what we can do, become, achieve

We’re so much better than this

Stop trying to dictate

How we should live our lives

Controlling every detail

From the moment that we’re born

We need a system that will

Nurture us and celebrate

The wondrous and miraculous

Diversity of life

By giving every one of us

The chance to shine

And bring to bear

Our unique gifts

And thus express

The sacred power of creation

That we all embody
