In 1964, between Lincoln and Kennedy

A pattern formed that marked distinctive similarities

Their last names each had seven letters, but, that's just a start

Both joined Congress in '46, a century apart

And, speaking about politics, coincidentally

Both of them were elected president in '60

They also spoke of Civil Rights and shared a deep concern

But what seems most intriguing is when their fate took a bad turn

Their assassins, John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald came

With 15 letters total and they went by their three names

They shot their victim in the head, a Friday, it would be

One ran from a theater, the other, to one, he'd flee

Their escape would be short-lived, they would be caught in a while

But, the two would be shot and killed before they could stand trial

The successors to the presidents, both named Johnson, were sworn

Interestingly, it was in '08, when they both were born

Some say there were more of these, but, discrepancies abound
