What does it mean to have a voice

Vocal cords create sound with rapid vibration

Our words, cries and giggles are communication

But a voice goes beyond chatter and vocalising

There are many great voices

You might find some surprising

We can write thoughts, type thoughts, use a special device

Our hands can sign stories, each movement precise

Splash colours on canvas, dance in dizzying spins

Dress to express or play melodies on violins

Anger is loud and clear with a stomp and a glare

A pat on the back says, I'm here mate, I care

Communication's two ways, a back and forth ping pong match

It's more fun throwing balls when there's someone to catch

So listen, with ears, eyes, hearts, noses and minds

Different voices need listeners of all different kinds

If the West hears the East and the tall hears the small

And if we hear the Earth, there'd be listeners for all

Oh imagine the marvellous world it would be if everyone listened respectfully

Everyone has a voice. Ideas worthy of sharing
