Boomplay Awards Showcase: Sauti Sol

Award winning Afro-pop band Sauti Sol are the latest recipients of plaques from the home of music, Boomplay for hitting a number of streaming milestones.

Sauti Sol were presented with three plaques at a brief award ceremony held at the Two Rivers mall on Saturday, 21st August, 2021, as they unveiled their limited edition of the Infinix Note 10 pro.

Members of the band, Polycarp Otieno, Savara Mudigi, Willis Chimano and Bien-Aime Baraza were all present to receive the plaques.

The band got a plaque for hitting over 1 million streams with their third studio album 'Live and Die in Afrika'.

Their song 'Suzanna' off their album 'Midnight Train' also hit 1 million streams on Boomplay and with it came a plaque.

'Melanin' featuring Patoranking is the other song that earned Sauti Sol their third plaque this year. The song is off their highly acclaimed album 'Afrikan Sauce'.

In total, Sauti Sol have over 10 million streams on Boomplay.

After getting the plaques, Bien thanked their fans and promised more music in the near future.

He also asked fans to extend the same love they have shown them to their artistes Nviiri and Bensoul.

"It's an inspiration (to get the plaques), more fuel for the journey ahead. We still have a long way to go and it feels good when someone pats you on the back, when the fans show love and stream your music" he said.

"I just want to ask the fans to extend the same love to Sol generation, a lot of good music is coming and so expect good numbers and we will keep on doing what we do best" he added.

On his end, Polycarp stressed on the importance of Boomplay in their careers and highlighted how it has helped push their music across Africa.

"Streaming is the new way of people getting to listen to music right now and Africa wise, Boomplay has helped put our music in places we have never been to physically. Just getting played in all parts of the continent is amazing" he said.

Sauti Sol's latest album 'Midnight Train' currently has over 3 million streams on Boomplay. The albums’ theme is centred around enjoying the journey of life but also embracing the hustles and the trials that come with it.

The group plans to drop a new album soon and with that, fans can look forward to more great vibes.
