Boomplay Awards Showcase: Mercy Masika

Multiple Award winning gospel singer Mercy Masika is the second recipient of plaques from Boomplay this year.

The 'Mwema' singer was awarded two plaques in a brief ceremony held at the Boomplay Kenya offices in Nairobi. Mercy was awarded a plaque for hitting over 5 million accumulative streams on Boomplay and for having her album 'Zaidi' cross the 2 million streams mark.

'Zaidi' was a collaborative project between Mercy Masika and Boomplay and has appearances from her mum, Agnes Masika, Nigeria's Ada and Mireille Basirwa.

The album is an overflow of Mercy Masika's pursuit of God as she sings that she wants to know God more. With a song on the album also called 'Zaidi', Mercy proclaims the works of the Lord in her life and affirms that she want's to move even more closer to her maker than she ever has.

Away from the album, Mercy is among the most sought after gospel artistes in the country with a hit-filled catalogue to her name. She is known for songs like: Shule Yako, Huyu Yesu ft. Angel Benard, Nikupendeze and Mkono wa Bwana.

On getting her plaques, Mercy said: "I expected my album 'Zaidi' to go places and be a blessing to many. Anytime I work on a project, I want it to be a blessing to many people. 2 million is just the beginning. I have been true to gospel music for over 20 years. If you cut my blood it bleads gospel".

On the role of Boomplay in her career, she said:

"Boomplay has been amazing. I have been able to connect to younger people through it and even reach people in Nigeria and other parts of Africa.

For us as gospel artistes, once you get a platform that helps you reach more people, you work becomes easier".

"I am excited about the impact of the cakes I get every year on my birthday thanks to Boomplay. I also love the goodies like the hoodies and the T-shirts" she added.

Mercy promised her fans more music next year and thanked them for always supporting her minsistry.

"I just want to thank all my fans and everyone who has followed and streamed my music. It is because of you that I sing. Thanks for loving and sharing my music. More music is coming in 2022 and I know it will bless you" she concluded.
