Casper Skulls, known for their studied sound and supercharged live performances, have been hailed by the likes of FADER, MTV and Billboard. On the back of their live shows opening for artists such as Thurston Moore, Julie Ruin, PUP, Hop Along, Speedy Ortiz, and Death From Above 1979, they’re considered one of the most exciting emerging bands in Toronto. Following the band’s 2016 EP, Lips and Skull (Buzz), Casper Skulls’ 2017 full-length, Mercy Works (Buzz), was a startlingly ambitious statement of intent. Each of the album’s 11 songs are densely arranged and performed with an uncommon earnestness. In 2018, following up on a SOCAN Songwriting Prize nomination for “Lingua Franca,” the band independently released new single/video, “O My Enemy,” and headlined a 21-date North American tour. Premiered by Brooklyn Vegan, “O My Enemy” is a great transition between Mercy Works and what’s to come.Now hard at work on their sophomore album, the band has refocused their approach and refined their sound. Check out their cover of Françoise Hardy’s “Où va la chance,” out now, and watch for new music in 2021....more
