Debris Discs
'Melodic infectiousness' - Obscure Sound
Debris Discs is the new solo project from former Coves & Caves and My Side of the Mountain frontman and songwriter James Eary. Following a well-received debut album release, Daytrotter and BBC live sessions and support slots with Other Lives and Besnard Lakes, Coves & Caves went on indefinite hiatus. So James packed up his synthesiser and settled down into family life up in the hills of the High Peak in Derbyshire, England. Unsurprisingly, he soon realised that he couldn't shake the music-making bug, so with a headful of beats and melodies and a heart full of new life changing experiences to draw from, James set to work.
Over the next few years, slotted in around babies, day jobs and the school run, James slowly pieced together a body of new music. The result is a set of analogue synth and drum machine driven tunes, with a smattering of guitar, a large helping of vocal harmonies and a sprinkling of children's toys he found lying around the house. Drawing from long-term influences such as The Delgados and The Beach Boys, James also brought in elements of synth and electro pop wonders like OMD, Giorgio Moroder and Pet Shop Boys, swampy indie electronica from The Beta Band and The Earlies and even his teenage love of west coast G Funk.
James is currently waiting for the children to go to bed so he can finish off the debut Debris Discs album, due early 2020....more
