Best known for her meticulous skill and boisterous versatility on the decks, Koketso Reabetswe Mathabathe, professionally known as KMAT, was born March 1st, 1999. The dexterous Amapiano producer and DJ was raised just outside South Africa’s national capital in the township of Soshanguve.
KMAT grew up in a home with music enthusiasts where her appreciation of the artform was nurtured at a young age. By the time KMAT had reached primary school, her fondness of music further expanded and became the catalyst for her adoration of both Beyonce and Michael
Jackson. Her admiration of Michael Jackson’s fashion sense, music and dance moves, as well as Beyonce’s high quality performances, have played a major part in informing KMAT’s contemporary musical expression and musicianship.
KMAT became a confirmed and official member of the church at the age of 13 and she joined the church youth group and choir thereafter. She later assumed the role choir conductor in high school which further strengthened her musical ear. While observing her audiences’ reaction to her music selections, her decision to be a DJ was made almost instantaneously. “I want people to be happy and dance to my track selections. I want to move people with my music.” – KMAT, 2022. Years
later, KMAT’s musical journey would come full circle as she enrolled and graduated from a DJ course at Boston College. While the young DJ maintains her pursuits
within the music industry, KMAT continues her education pursuing a Media qualification at Boston Media House.
Her highly anticipated debut EP titled “Luminous Flame” is slated for release in December 2022. The project that features many Amapiano superstars including hit makers Felo Le Tee, 031CHOPPA, Sino Msolo, and 2woshort to highlight a few....more
