Austin, Texas, has long been a breeding ground for musicians. Not only has the town birthed some of the best players one could ever hope to hear, it also attracts peerless musicians from all over the world.
Kalu & the Electric Joint blend the powers of psychedelic soul music with the driving beat of rock and roll and the ancient rhythms of Africa. Born & Raised in Nigeria, Kalu James immigrated to the United States at age 18 and at 25 relocated to Austin, Texas, where he put together a stellar ensemble of players who graciously fuel and follow his deep well of eclectic influences.
This musical chemistry comes from the bond forged by frontman Kalu James, guitarist Jonathan “JT” Holt, who adds a touch of American soul to Kalu’s West African heritage & Drummer/Percussionist, John Speice, adding a mastery of rhythms Kalu had grown up with.
The group’s new record, Time Undone is a sonic masterpiece of original tunes with a positive message and soul-stirring beats featuring guest appearances by members of Widespread Panic, The War on Drugs, The Sword and Grupo Fantasma.
Having played Bonnaroo 2019 & opening for acts like George Clinton, Questlove, Allen Stone, Moon Taxi, amongst many other, Kalu & The Electric Joint are taking the message across the United States; their next stop, your hometown?
