The Modern Revivalist, Popularly known as Proud Refuge, is a Rapper, singer, song-writer, and entrepreneur. The Kenyan American star is among a new breed of artists bridging the industry gap by taking the afro trap sensibility and elevating it to its great effect. Slipping between rapping and singing in English and Swahili, he represents his culture and heritage boldly. His smooth delivery and evocative vocal tone pair well with the bouncy, energetic production that defines his sound.
Known for his fluid melodies and witty bars, Refuge was first introduced to the Kenyan music industry in 2012 by Gospel legend Rufftone under lampstand records which debuted his first single titled “Live” as (Malachi) Featuring Kenyan Hip-Hop originator Juliani. Prior to this Refuge had released several mixtape singles including a 10 track project titled “Freshly Redeemed” in 2011. In the years to follow, Refuge developed his artistry further, re-evaluating the style of music he wanted to create, mastering his sound, and stockpiling records under the rap moniker pesa which he later dropped in 2015.
Having worked with fetty wap's producer Dj Cooley and Bay Area legend Q-heem, Refuge also boasts features with Nigerian rising star Limoblaze, Nkay and Gil Joe to name a few. Refuge gained more popularity after his song “Sight” featuring Sajan Nayarial was featured on the “The Ace family” youtube channel and racked up over 10 million views in only a few weeks....more
