Jua Cali

Paul Nunda, born on the 12th of September 1979, professionally known as Jua Cali, is a Kenyan rapper and songwriter. Many of Jua Cali’s songs become very popular and trendy online with a great number of streaming and downloads on Boomplay.

Jua Cali started out in a band known as ‘Sitafuti’ before the group disbanded to pursue solo careers. While searching for upcoming artists to produce music for Jua Cali decided to record his own music linking up with childhood friend Clemmo to start a record label titled Calif Records.

Calif Records soon became a prominent label after Jua Cali’s music career took off earning himself back to back hits gaining popularity across East Africa. Jua Cali several artists who contributed to the success of Calif Records that produced a myriad of chart topping hits through their iconic sound that invented the Genge genre.

CAREER
Jua Cali started rapping when he was in Jamhuri high school but it wasn’t until finishing school in 1998 that he embarked on a career in Music. In 2001 the artist 'JUACALI' was born, his residence California estate influenced his artist name which means 'know California' His debut single titiled 'RUKA' a dedication to Calif was released the same year being a moderate success in Kenya.

In 2002 he released his follow up single Nipe Asali followed by a collaboration with Pilipili on the hit single "Kamata Dame" which further boosted his popularity.

In 2006 Jua Cali released his debut album "Juacali Sekta" which was a massive success spawning several hit singles including Kiasi, Bidii Yangu, Kamata Dame and Bidii Yangu.

In 2007 Jua Cali released his most popular hit to date titled ‘Kwaheri’ an iconic duet with Sanaipei Tande that was a major hit across Africa and is regarded a classic by many. Jua Cali became a household name in the Kenyan music scene and was featured in Standard Media’s 100 most influential Kenyans list in 2007.
