Van Plating, née Rachel Van Plating, is an independent singersongwriter from Lakeland Fl. Once grown from the fertile soils of the central florida indie music scene in the late nineties and early 2000s, Plating left the indie music world when she and her husband starting having a family, around 10 years ago. Four kids, two miscarriages and a near death experience later she is back to doing the thing that has followed her, chased her and helped her make sense of most of her days, for better or worse, on this wild planet--music.
The world is hard on people who try to do new things. Especially when those people happen to be women with children. The road was difficult. Vulnerability and exposure is laced throughout the songs on her eponymous album and the process of shedding the way people knew her and the way she knew herself, to be really open and honest and just let the words and melodies flow and keep going in spite of what life threw her way was excruciating at times. But she did it.
“Van Plating” is a collection of songs gathered through the myriad experience of a full life. It’s honest, raw and vulnerable. Plating’s deepest hope with her work is that that listener will feel seen by the stories in the songs, connect with the melodies and maybe through the shared act of listening and performing, we’ll all feel a little bit lighter.
Van Plating is scheduled to record four singles this year, with the first two releasing this summer....more
