Singer/Songwriter Lawson J makes contemporary pop that mixes R&B, Hip-Hop, and Soul influences such as Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye
and James Brown that his parents used to play everyday during his childhood.
Junior as everybody calls him, grew up focusing on his love of soccer. However in his junior year of high school, his parent bought him a guitar and he started to learn to play by watching videos on Youtube.
One year later Lawson J started to sing and learned the famous Tracy Chapman song “Talking About Revolution” that he will perform
during a friend’s gig. Starting from there Lawson J never stopped singing and started to learn how to write and record his own music.
He began experimenting with synthesizers, and started producing tracks for friends late in 2015.
Mixing and mastering his music came later on, especially due to financial limitations.
Lawson J first single “The Real You” was released on July 5th 2019. A song that he made from A to Z, mixed and mastered as well.
“The Real You” talks about the life of a young girl trying to cope with her daily struggles. She attempts to hide her feelings, not to suffer
and pretend to be someone she’s not. “The Real You” could be everybody’s story, because just as the girl in the song, we are all fighting against ourselves in a society that is not encouraging our differences.
Lawson J is currently recording his first album and will release a second single in September....more
