The nom de plume of multi-platinum-selling South African gospel artist and practicing doctor Tumišang Makweya, Dr Tumi administers medicine to both the body and the soul. The frontman for acclaimed gospel collective Intense, Makweyai began a solo career in 2012 with the release of his award-winning debut, Heart of a King. Subsequent efforts like Love & Grace (2015) and Love on the Cross (2019) helped to further establish Dr Tumi as one of South Africa's most successful gospel artists.
A native of Seshego, Limpopo, Makweya honed both his spiritual and musical skills in Sunday school. He then spent six years studying medicine at MEDUNSA (Medical University of South Africa). Looking for other ways to inspire and heal, he eventually joined the South African gospel group Intense, who accrued a loyal following in the early 2010s. He embarked on a lucrative solo career in 2012 with the release of the chart-topping Heart of a King, which helped to turn Makweya, who was by then operating under the Dr Tumi moniker, into a household name.
